PSG set to choose between Messi and Mbappé?

LEAKED: PSG's plans for next season would include Mbappé but not Messi

March 11, 2023 By Oscar Rojas
Team exec Luis Campos will have the massive task to build a proper roster around the French superstar, which may lead to the Argentine ace's exit.

The end of the road for PSG in the UEFA Champions League has seen fans and experts plotting about the possible moves this summer, and to the surprise of many of them, the final months of their all-star trio could be coming.

According to a report by L'Equipe, the French side could start a revolution within their squad, led by sporting director Luis Campos, the man who has taken all the criticism for his decisions since he joined PSG last summer. His plans would reportedly include the exits of many high-profile players, including Sergio Ramos, and more importantly, Lionel Messi.

The team is facing quite a predicament to meet UEFA's Financial Fair Play rules, and that could be the main cause behind Messi's exit. The Argentine's deal is set to expire next summer, and despite initial interest from both sides to extend his deal, sources close to the team have told L'Equipe that Messi will have to adapt to the team's wishes, and if he is not ready to give in to some of his demands, the club will have no option but to let him leave.

The same goes for Sergio Ramos. The Spaniard's deal with the club will expire this summer, and while his chances to stay were slim before January 2023, his form during the first months and his performance against Bayern have given him some credit. Ramos' deal is not as massive as Messi's and he could be part of the team's squad next season as long as they can agree the length of their deal and a lower wage.

In terms of signings, PSG must transfer some players before they can add talent to their roster. Some of those players ready to leave the club will include Julian Draxler, Leandro Paredes, and Georginio Wijnaldum, all of them on loan this season. Other loanees that may have played their final match with the team are Keylor Navas and Mauro Icardi, and the club will want to cash in on their transfers to make way for more footballers.

The first names to be included in PSG's transfer plans will be Milan Skriniar, who will join the club as a free agent. Additionally, the French side is keen on adding defender Pau Torres, Rayan Cherki, and Gonçalo Ramos, with initial contacts for all of them being held recently. Another option up front would be Victor Osimnhen, but the Nigerian striker is reportedly interested in sealing a move to Manchester United.

And what about Neymar? The Brazilian ace has been deemed surplus to the team's requirements, but with a contract that will expire by the end of the 2026-27 season, it seems far-fetched to see the player leave due to the massive wages he collects. Even so, the thought of parting ways with him would benefit the club's Financial Fair Play issues, but watching the footballer leave will not be easy to accomplish for the French side, as the player is not ready to leave behind his big income to help the team out.
