Christophe Galtier leaves Lille just days after winning the team's first Ligue 1 title in a decade.

What an eventful 48 hours it's been for Lille and their supporters. On Sunday, Christophe Galtier's side won their first Ligue 1 title in a decade, thus ending PSG's undisputed reign as the champions of France. They did so in enthralling fashion, beating Les Parisiens to the coveted prize by just one point in what was the most exciting title race fans have seen in quite some time.

However, the man who led them to that winner's podium won't be in charge once the 2021/2022 Ligue 1 season rolls around. Shockingly, just a few days after celebrating Lille's first Ligue 1 win since 2011, Galtier has decided to walk away. Despite having one year left on his contract, the 54-year-old, who joined Lille in 2017 after spending eight years at Saint-Etienne, will be moving on to pursue other opportunities.

According to reports, Galtier enjoyed a very close working relationship with former Lille president Gerard Lopez, who left in December as the club were facing financial difficulties. Despite the best efforts of new president Olivier Letang, Galtier has opted not to remain with the newly crowned champions, and now Lille will have to find a new manager as they aim to successfully defend their Ligue 1 title.

The 83 points earned by Lille over the course of the 2020/2021 season is a new club record, so whoever takes over Galtier's position will have some huge shoes to fill.
