The French striker made amends for his poor spot kick by firing the Rossonerri in-front ahead of the break.

Olivier Giroud vindicated himself in Tuesday night's UEFA Champions League clash with Napoli with a crucial goal in the quarter-final tie. The French striker registered the opening goal of the encounter moments after seeing a poorly taken penalty saved by Alex Meret.

Milan went into the night's encounter holding the advantage after securing a 1-0 win at San Siro in the first leg. Throughout the first half at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, the visitors looked dangerous on the counter attack and were duly rewarded in no time. Raphael Leao found his way into Napoli's penalty box and his quick footwork won Pioli's side a penalty. However, the opportunity was squandered as Olivier Giroud had his shot parried wide by Napoli's Meret.

Two minutes before the half-time break, Milan got another opportunity to get in front and made no mistake this time around. A pass intended for Victor Oshimen was poorly controlled by the Nigerian striker and Rafeal Leao emerged once again to initiate another counter attack from his own half. The Portuguese attacker went past two Napoli players and found himself through on goal. He then placed simple square pass into the path of Olivier Giroud to put the ball into the net.
