Manchester City reached a significant milestone as they scored their 1000th goal under the guidance of Pep Guardiola in a Wednesday night's win over West Ham United. The landmark goal came from Phil Foden as the Citizens ran away with an emphatic 3-0 victory to reclaim top spot. 

Following a rather uneventful first-half, Man City sprang to life in the second 45 minutes to secure another statement win. Nathan Ake scored the first goal in the 50th minute, beating West Ham's Lukasz Fabianski at the far post by connecting with Riyad Mahrez's in-swinging free-kick. In the 70th minute, Erling Haaland scored his 35th Premier League goal of the season to put Man City two goals up, becoming the first player in the history of the competition to achieve that feat. 

In the 85th minute, Phil Foden got the night's third goal just nine minutes after replacing Julian Alavarez to take Man City's tally under Pep Guardiola to 1000. Consequently, the defending champions claimed the top spot from Arsenal with a game in hand.

For Pep Guardiola, the night's result meant that he has achieved this feat quicker than any other manager in the Premier League era, having done so in just 404 fixtures at an average rate of 2.47 goals per match. This record betters the previous holder Arsene Wenger's by 150 games and also exceeds Sir Alex Ferguson's by 197 matches.

The impressive 1000 goals have been scored by an incredible 40 different City players against 71 different opponents in various competitions. Manchester City has scored triple figures in the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and FA Cup, while the remaining goals have come in the Carabao Cup, Champions League qualifying matches, and the Community Shield.

Sergio Aguero, the club's record goalscorer, tops the individual list with 124 strikes under Guardiola's guidance, with Raheem Sterling (120), Gabriel Jesus (95), Kevin De Bruyne (79), and Riyad Mahrez (78) completing the top five.
