Sometimes, reunions don't always turn out as planned, as Juventus and Massimiliano Allegri have found out this season.
The Bianconeri have had a roller coaster ride of a campaign, first struggling to get off the ground, then picking up steam only to be docked 15 points and sent hurtling back down the table. Nonetheless, Juventus continued to battle against the odds, slowly working their way up the table again and were seemingly given a reprieve as they were able to successfully overturn their prior punishment and get their 15 points reinstated.
However, they have been dealt another major blow as Italy's sporting courts decided to hand down another punishment, with ten points being docked off Juve's total. That means that Allegri's side have virtually no chance of featuring in the Champions League next season as they have now slid to seventh place, five points behind fourth placed AC Milan.
Although hypothetically, it's not out of the realm of possibility as there are still two games left to play, Juventus will not only need to win both of those games but also hope that Milan lose both their remaining Serie A ties. With that highly unlikely to happen, it looks like Juventus will have to settle either for the Europa or Europa Conference League next season.
This will mean that Juventus will lose out heavily financially, with many players expected to depart this summer as the club struggles to balance their books. In addition, the Bianconeri were beaten in the Coppa Italia by Inter, and dumped out of the Europa League semi-finals by serial winners Sevilla. As such, La Vecchia Signora will finish the season sans trophies, and with big changes expected to happen this summer, reports are rife that Allegri will not be the manager on the tactician's bench come the start of the 2023/24 campaign.
Will changing managers help spearhead a dramatic turnaround for a club in turmoil? That really remains to be seen, and many eyes will be on Allegri as he could be managing his last few games as a Juventus manager.
