León vs Los Angeles FC - Team news

The hosts enter the title match after going through anguish and joy in the previous stages. The team in green and white had almost no problems to get past the Round of 16 and the Quarterfinals, where they went through against Tauro and Violette AC. Their semi-final tie against Tigres was another story, as they had to rally back in the second leg after losing the first match 2-1. Eventually, León made it to the final by winning the return tie 3-1 in order to reach their second final in this competition and the first one since 1993.

As for the LAFC, the black and gold struggled to make it past the Round o 16 after a woeful second leg against Alajuelense, who came close to sending the game to penalties. Steve Cherundolo's men went on to beat the Vancouver Whitecaps with a 6-0 aggregate, which saw them make the semis against the Philadelphia Union. Once there, Los Angeles FC claimed their spot in the final by defeating the MLS side 4-1 after both games. Just like León, the LAFC will play their second CONCACAF Champions League final, hoping to win their first title in the tournament after losing to Tigres in 2020.

Although no one wants to miss out on such a game, there will be some high-profile absentees in this clash. Here is the list of players that will not feature in this match.

León: No reported injuries.

Los Angeles FC: Giorgio Chiellini, Tony Leone, Aaron Long, Maxime Crepeau, Jesús Murillo, Kellyn Acosta (injured).

León vs Los Angeles FC: Head-to-head

  • This will be the third CONCACAF Champions League game between these teams, with one win for each team so far.

  • Los Angeles FC eliminated León in their previous KO tie in this competition back in 2020.

  • Whenever these teams have met, the away team has been unable to score. León beat the black and gold 2-0, but Los Angeles claimed a 3-0 win at home to seal their place in the next round last year.

  • León have never beaten an MLS club in the KO stage of the CONCACAF CL. They lost to the Seattle Sounders (2022), against Toronto FC (2021), and facing the LAFC in 2020.

  • Los Angeles FC will face a Liga MX team in a KO stage for the fifth time in this tournament. They defeated León, Cruz Azul, and América in 2020, but then went to lose the title match against Tigres UANL in that edition.

  • Coaches Nicolás Larcamón (León) and Steve Cherundolo (LAFC) will face their rivals for the first time in history.

  • León will try to recover Liga MX's dominance in this tournament after a run of sixteen Mexican teams winning this competition until last year.

  • Los Angeles FC will try to become the fourth MLS team to win the CONCACAF CL title, following D.C. United (1998), Los Angeles Galaxy (2000), and Seattle Sounders (2022).
