The Stars and Stripes have now moved into top spot in Group A, but will need a win to ensure they head into the knockout rounds as the top seed.

After a frustrating one-all draw against Jamaica, the pressure was on the USMNT to get things right as they took on yet another Caribbean opponent on matchday two. This time around, St. Kitts and Nevis, who are making their first ever appearance at a CONCACAF Gold Cup, presented no opposition as the Stars and Stripes cruised to a very comfortable 6-0 win to now move to top spot in Group A.

Jamaica's 3-0 win over Trinidad & Tobago means that they still remain right on the tails of the USMNT, but Team USA, who are the reigning CONCACAF Gold Cup champions, have a much superior goal difference. That means that as long as they don't lose to Trinidad & Tobago, they should finish top in Group A and head on to face whoever finishes second in Group D for the first knockout round ties next weekend.

The result against St. Kitts and Nevis has certainly helped to calm any worries among USMNT fans, with Jesus Ferreira netting a hat-trick for his side to put them in pole position to head to the knockout rounds as group leaders. Although Trinidad secured a 3-0 win over St. Kitts and Nevis on matchday one, the Soca Warriors are expected to be no match for their upcoming opponents as they come into this contest having lost 4-1 to Jamaica.

In addition, save for a shock 2-1 win back in November 2017 that denied the USMNT a chance to feature at the 2018 World Cup, Trinidad have not had much success against their CONCACAF opponents. The last two meetings (in 2019 and 2021) have seen them concede a whopping 13 times and score none. As such, barring a surprising collapse, B.J. Callaghan's team are expected to get the job done without much fuss and look forward towards the knockout rounds next weekend.

Team news: USMNT vs Trinidad & Tobago

USMNT: Miles Robinson and Aaron Long could miss this game as they recover from hamstring and head injuries respectively, while it remains to be seen if Jordan Morris, who suffered a knee injury and was on the bench for the St. Kitts game, gets some game-time or is rested further for the next round.

Trinidad & Tobago: Tristan Hodge missed out on the loss to Jamaica due to a hamstring injury, so it remains to be seen if he's involved here. Meanwhile, both Kaile Auvray and Kevin Molino came off the bench and may or may not be involved in the starting XI.
