The Spanish side will part ways with one of the top earning players in the team following this decision by Joan Laporta.

Barcelona continue to make moves during the offseason that will pave the way for more signings, and this one will be gladly accepted by all Blaugrana fans due to the amount of money they will save.

Earlier today, the club announced their decision to end their contractual relationship with Samuel Umtiti. The 2018 World Cup winner with France spent the last season out on loan with Serie A side Lecce, where he found his best form and helped the Wolves to secure a spot in the Italian top-flight for next season.

This comes as great news for Barcelona, as they will save over $20M in bonuses and wages the player was supposed to collect. His deal with the Blaugrana ended in 2026, which makes this move even better for the club.

In a press release issued by the club, Barcelona appreciated Umtiti's gesture to end his deal with Els Culers, while also praising his contribution to the club during his six-year stay at Camp Nou.

"With two league titles and three cups, Samuel Umtiti is now severing ties completely with Barça, but will be taking away memories as fond as those that the club will have of him," the club stated in the document.

Umtiti, now a free agent, has been linked to Olympique Marseille and Lecce as potential destinations for the former French international.
