The Stars and Stripes beat Les Rouges on penalties before getting into a heated altercation with their rivals while heading to the locker room.

USA and Canada were involved in an exciting CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinal showdown over the weekend. The Stars and Stripes, who are the reigning champions, locked horns with their bitter North American rivals for a spot in the semis but not many expected what unfolded in this tie.

That encounter was a tightly-contested affair with no goals scored up until the final 10 minutes of the game. The USA took the lead in the 88th minute through a Brandon Vazquez goal which appeared to be the winner. However, Les Rouges equalized in 90+3 after VAR awarded the CONCACAF Nations League runners-up a penalty.

Canada then went 2-1 up in the 109th minute courtesy of a Jacob Shaffelburg goal but the defending champions equalized five minutes later to take this clash to a penalty shootout.

Matt Turner reigned supreme during the spot kicks, with the Arsenal shot-stopper saving Canada's first two attempts to guide his nation to the semifinals. Unfortunately, while this was a moment to celebrate for the USA and their fans, things turned ugly while both sets of players walked down the tunnel.

In a clip released by TUDN USA, the two camps square off as they make their way to the locker rooms. According to Marca, the USA players were guilty of mocking the opposition following their victory, with the Canadians reacting. Turner, who was named Man of the Match, can be seen in the middle trying to calm things down and reestablish order. Check out this incident.

It remains to be seen whether CONCACAF will hand out punishment for this altercation but the USMNT will carry on nonetheless. B.J. Callaghan's shift focus to the semifinals where they will battle it out with Panama for a spot in the final.
