The English midfielder started in the Red Devils' pre-season friendly against Leeds and nearly scored a worldie.

Manchester United are already back in action, with the Premier League giants returning to the pitch on Wednesday in a pre-season friendly against Leeds.

And as is often the case with pre-season fixtures, Erik ten Hag took this opportunity to give his new signing Mason Mount his debut, with the English midfielder aiming to hit the ground running ahead of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign.

The former Chelsea midfielder left Stamford Bridge for Old Trafford for roughly $70M after a disastrous campaign with the Blues last season. However, despite his poor campaign, the 24-year-old remains an undeniable talent and he reminded everyone of his abilities after nearly scoring an outrageous goal on his unofficial debut.

After robbing an opposition defender of the ball while Leeds were attempting to build out from the back, the Three Lions ace came achingly close to giving the Red Devils the lead after only 11 minutes. The English spotted the keeper off of his line and attempted to chip the goalie from outside the box, with his shot just narrowly missing the crossbar. Check it out in the clip below.

However, Mount and several of his other Manchester United teammates failed to impress for the most part. This is quite common in pre-season fixtures as the focus is mainly to build fitness and chemistry on the pitch. However, Ten Hag and Co. will be tasked with getting the best out of their summer acquisition.

The English giants finished in third last season and are keen on adding Andre Onana to their squad as well before heading for their USA tour. Rashford and Co. will face Lyon first before jetting off to North America where they will lock horns with fellow European heavyweights Real Madrid, Arsenal, and Dortmund.
