Just when life in Saudi Arabia seemed to be getting better for Cristiano Ronaldo, football's governing body has handed a devastating blow to their options of adding marquee players to Al Nassr.
Earlier today, the club was informed by FIFA that they will be handed a transfer ban for a pending payment to Leicester City. The deal between Al Nassr and the recently relegated Foxes involved the transfer of Ahmed Musa, who left the then-Premier League side in 2018 to join the yellow and blue club
Musa spent the next two years playing for Al Nassr, where he scored 14 goals in 50 apps. The Nigerian footballer left Saudi Arabia to return to his home country, but apparently, the Saudi side failed to pay the full amount for his transfer, which has caused FIFA to ban Al Nassr from making any transfers, in or out, for the current window and the next two.
The Pro League club has already issued a plea to FIFA, urging football's governing body to hear their case. As per initial reports, Al Nassr execs revealed they were not aware of any debts, since the current administration was not in charge of the team back in 2018. The club has stated they do have the funds to clear this debt, which would see Leicester City getting over $465,000.
Al Nassr had been trying to lure some talent to their roster following their second-place finish in the Pro League last summer, and they had successfully hired Marcelo Brozovic prior to this ban. While this could be sorted out easily due to the massive budget Al Nassr have, it remains to be seen if FIFA will lift the ban after handing a harsh sanction against the yellow and blue.
Moreover, it will also be interesting to see if this ban has an effect on Cristiano Ronaldo's future, who will certainly have his say on this issue and on the fact that his team will not be able to pursue any other top-caliber players if the ban stands.
