After an unfortunate hiatus, we are back with the most-watched soccer games of the week in the USA, with this list detailing the popular matches from July 3 through July 9, 2023. In the absence of the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and La Liga, it was up to the CONCACAF Gold Cup to carry the burden and carry the burden they did.
Not only were the three most-watched fixtures of last week from the Gold Cup, but all three slots went to Univision's coverage of the tournament, with the Spanish-language television network racking up outstanding viewership figures.
To no one's surprise, the top two spots on the podium went to CONCACAF's two powerhouses: Mexico and the USMNT. El Tri slightly edged out the Stars and Stripes with their 2-0 quarterfinal victory over Costa Rica as that tie garnered just under 2.5 million average viewers.
The USA, meanwhile, beat Canada on penalties after drawing 2-2 after extra time in a thrilling encounter. Roughly 2.3 average viewers tuned in to Univision to watch Matt Turner save two spot kicks to help his nation make the semifinals. Unfortunately, their encounter with Panama in the penultimate stage did not go as planned – more on that in next week's piece as that semifinal tie will likely make the upcoming list.
Wrapping up the top three is Jamaica's quarterfinal clash with Guatemala, which the Reggae Boyz won 1-0.
