Liverpool fans have been crying out for a midfield overhaul for a few seasons now but could the Merseyside giants finally pull this off this summer?
Two additions have already been made, with Alexis Mac Allister joining from Brighton while Dominik Szoboszlai, albeit a more attack-minded player, was also recruited from RB Leipzig.
However, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, two key figures in Liverpool's recent success under Jurgen Klopp, are unexpectedly on the brink of joining the Saudi Pro League, which means the Reds will need to strengthen once more.
As reported by the Athletic, Fabinho is subject to a $59M (£40M) bid from Saudi giants Al Ittihad, with Liverpool now deciding to omit the Brazilian from their pre-season squad as they expect his exit to go through.
Likewise, while Jordan Henderson has traveled to Germany with the squad, the captain is also expected to depart Anfield for the Middle East after agreeing personal terms with Al Ettifaq.
As a result, Liverpool fans began discussing whether this will force their club to make another marquee signing. Declan Rice is officially off the market after completing his switch to Arsenal but could Klopp's men make a move for Brighton's wantaway star Moises Caicedo or Real Madrid ace Aurélien Tchouameni?
That very-same report from the Athletic addresses these questions and the answer is no. Nonetheless, Liverpool are already exploring new midfielders to replace Fabinho, with two of their targets already being Premier League players.
The first is obviously Romeo Lavia, the Southampton ace who has been linked with Anfield for some time now. The Saints got relegated last season, meaning an exit is possible for the Belgian ace, but agreeing a fee with his current employers is the biggest task.
Additionally, the English giants have an eye on Kalvin Phillips, but the Three Lions international is currently happy at Manchester City and so it should be interesting to see how this unfolds.
The other two names on the Reds' radar are Sofyan Amrabat and Ryan Gravenberch. Amrabat is also subject to interest from Manchester United which might put the Merseyside giants in direct competition with their biggest rival for the Moroccan's signature.
Salah and Co. narrowly missed out on UEFA Champions League football last season, finishing in fifth. If they wish to return to Europe's premier competition, then extra strengthening will be needed. Only time will tell if Klopp gets his ideal target(s) or not.
