The first games of the 2023 Leagues Cup took place on Friday, and things will get even more interesting in the second day of games of the recently revamped tournament.
Saturday's games will be packed with MLS teams, with Pumas UNAM and Xolos de Tijuana being the only Liga MX clubs scheduled to play. Despite having only two Liga MX-MLS games, the fixtures promise to be quite interesting to keep an eye on, especially with what it could mean for the rest of the group stage.

CF Montreal vs Pumas UNAM
The Impact return to a continental tournament with a major score to settle, as they have not performed properly against Liga MX teams. The same goes for Pumas UNAM, who don't have fond memories of their matches against MLS clubs, especially after their last experience. Montreal have only been able to defeat Mexican teams in two of their 12 previous games, while Mexican clubs have defeated the Canadians five times. Meanwhile, Pumas have struggled against MLS clubs, losing five out of their eleven games, but when it comes to Canadian teams, the blue and gold have claimed one win and one draw (vs Toronto), which may give coach Antonio Mohamed high hopes for this game.

New York RB vs New England Revolution
One of the most intense rivalries in MLS will see the Red Bulls and the Revs going at it in the Leagues Cup fighting for supremacy not only in this tournament, but also between them. Saturday's clash will feature obe of the best teams in the Eastern Conference (New England) against the struggling side led by Troy Lesesne, who was hired to try and turn their fortunes around in what has been a disappointing season. This will be the 94th game between these clubs, and with the Revs having a commanding lead over the Red Bulls, it seems that the safest bet would be to go all in to favor Bruce Arena's men.

Philadelphia Union vs Tijuana
The Union are named by many as one of the teams that could go all the way in this tournament, but their first order of business will be to make the most out of their game against Tijuana, led by former El Tri boss Miguel Herrera. The 2022 MLS runners-up have only won once against Liga MX teams in four previous matches, while Tijuana have only won one out of five when facing MLS opposition. This will be the first meeting between these teams, and it could turn out to be quite an entertaining match to witness.

Real Salt Lake vs Seattle Sounders
One of the most interesting games in the group stage of this competition will feature Real Salt Lake and the Rave Green. Both teams are in contention to take the top spot in the Western Conference, and their record against each other shows just how even these games end up being (17 wins for each club, with seven draws). The Claret and Cobalt went unbeaten against the Sounders in the current MLS season, winning one and drawing the remaining clash, which means that Brian Schmetzer's men will be all in to earn some payback against one of their bitter rivals.

Portland Timbers vs SJ Earthquakes
The Timbers will enter the final game of Day 2 with much to prove and with a reputation to uphold against the Quakes. The club from Portland have dominated their opponents historically by claiming 18 wins in 34 previous games.
