The London giants revealed that the midfielder has gone under the knife after leaving West Ham on crutches.

Things continue to get worse for Chelsea.

Not only are the London giants without a win this season, drawing 1-1 at home to Liverpool in their opening game before losing 3-1 at West Ham over the weekend, but Pochettino's side have now lost another player to injury.

That player is Carney Chukwuemeka, the talented midfielder who got the Blues' only goal of the game in the defeat to the Hammers. The Englishman suffer this injury in Sunday's London derby shortly after getting on the scoresheet and was thus forced off the pitch.

After the final whistle, the former Aston Villa man was seen leaving the stadium in crutches, sparking fears over a long-term injury. Fast forward to today and Chelsea have offered an update, confirming that the player suffered an injury to his left knee and has undergone surgery.

Fortunately, the 19-year-old is only expected to miss roughly six weeks. While this is not ideal, a knee injury that requires surgery could have ended in a lengthier absence for the youngster.

The player started Chelsea's opening two games and a six-week layoff could see him return in time for the club's rough run of fixtures between October 21 and December 6.

During this 17-day period, the two-time UEFA Champions League winners will face Arsenal, Brentford, Tottenham, Manchester City, Newcastle, Brighton, and then Manchester United in consecutive games.

However, Pochettino's side must first focus on their next three games in the league — home games against Luton Town and Nottingham Forest before traveling to the Vitality Stadium to face Bournemouth.
