The Reds desperately need midfield reinforcement and are keeping an eye on this Manchester City player.

Liverpool might have signed Japanese player Wataru Endo to bolster their depleted midfield but the Merseyside giants aren't yet done in this department.

According to talkSPORT, the Reds have their eyes on another midfielder, this time an experienced Premier League player who currently represents one of their biggest rivals.

That man is Kalvin Phillips, the Manchester City ace who has struggled for minutes since moving to the Etihad Stadium. The Englishman has found playing time hard to come by in Manchester and thus could be lured away from the treble winners.

The 27-year-old enjoyed a brilliant spell at Leeds under Marcelo Bielsa and was a linchpin in England's run to the Euro 2020 final. However, injuries and the spectacular form of Rodri have limited the Three Lions player to a few cameos off the bench.

After missing out on both Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, Klopp's side are desperate for additions, hence this link. Furthermore, the Reds were linked with Philipps while he was still at Leeds but ultimately missed out to the Cityzens.

One thing should be noted, however: Kalvin has been keen on a stay all summer. The player was reportedly offered to West Ham back when Pep's side were pursuing Declan Rice but the City midfielder had no desire to leave.

Liverpool, however, are not West Ham and thus they could prove too tempting to turn down. It will be interesting to see if anything comes of this interest ahead of a peculiar season. While Klopp's front line looks to be one of the best in the country, his team remains woefully unbalanced in midfield and defense, leaving their 2023-24 campaign under doubt.

The Reds began the campaign with a draw away to Chelsea and while a point at Stamford Bridge is always precious, their tactical set-up left a lot to be desired. Matchday 2 brought a 3-1 victory over Bournemouth but the jury is still out on Klopp's side.
