The Red Devils are short on midfielders following the recent injury to Mason Mount and could strengthen this position before the end of the window.

Manchester United could return to the transfer window to strengthen their midfield, but despite all the rumors, Sofyan Amrabat is not the player being immediately targeted.

According to Bild, the Premier League giants have discussed a potential player swap with none other than Bayern Munich, with the Red Devils eyeing a move for Ryan Gravenberch.

The Dutch midfielder was one of the most highly-rated youngsters during his time with Ajax. Coincidentally, that coincided with Erik ten Hag's reign at the Eredivisie giants.

However, since moving to Bayern Munich, the 21-year-old has struggled for minutes and has been linked with an exit. Liverpool are also interested but Manchester United appear to be ahead of their English rivals.

Bayern Munich, meanwhile, are in the hunt for a different type of midfielder and have approached Ten Hag's side over a deal for Scott McTominay. The Scottish international was an integral figure at the club last season, though not always a starter, but has only featured for seven minutes so far this campaign.

The Bundesliga giants are on the lookout for a defensive midfielder and after missing out on Declan Rice to Arsenal, the Bavarians have approached the Manchester giants to explore a deal for their academy graduate.

This arrangement would be a loan, which could suit both parties. However, depending on whether Manchester United get Sofyan Amrabat or not, this could leave the Red Devils short in the no.6 department.

Casemiro remains a talented player irrespective of his shaky start to the season but letting Scott McTominay go would leave them with no other option in that position. However, with Mason Mount injured, Gravenberch could offer them cover and a different kind of quality in midfield, one they are currently lacking.

McTominay had been linked with a move to West Ham following Declan Rice's departure and while the Hammers have signed a replacement in the form of Edson Alvarez, Manchester United could still be open to the Scotman's exit.
