The experienced defender has decided to hang up her boots following the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.

Julie Ertz is moving on.

Despite only just celebrating her 31st birthday, the USWNT and Angel City star has decided to call time on her professional career. Ertz was part of the USWNT's squad at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup that were shockingly dumped out of the round of 16 by Sweden, and after the competition, stated that that game would be her last with the national team.

Yet, many fans had hoped to see her still playing club football with Angel City, only to find out today that the Arizona-born player has decided to retire totally from the game entirely. It will come as a huge blow for her side, who had only signed her this past April from Chicago Red Stars after she made a big comeback to the game after giving birth to her son in August.

It certainly wasn't an easy decision for the player, who was part of the World Cup winning squads at the 2015 and 2019 World Cups, and had made over 120 appearances for the USWNT since making her debut in 2013. However, it's clear that she likely wants to be able to spend time with her family, especially her young son and focus on other endeavors.
