Mexico vs Uzbekistan - Team news

Mexico will continue their quest to host the 2026 World Cup under coach Jaime Lozano with this match, days after a 2-2 draw against Australia. Lozano's men came from behind to claim that draw with goals scored by Raúl Jiménez and newcomer César Huerta, who had a stellar debut with El Tri thanks to that late goal. Other players that stood tall for Mexico last Saturday include Uriel Antuna and West Ham midfielder Edson Alvarez, who showed how useful he can be playing as a midfielder and as a center back.

On the other side of the pitch, Uzbekistan enter this match with much to prove after losing to the USMNT last weekend. The team coached by Srecko Katanec has a lot of room for improvement, relying on players such as Eldor Shomurodov and Jaloliddin Masharipov. The team's defense could use some improvement after their last outing, which is where the experience of Rustam Ashurmatov could come in handy.

Both of these teams will have some absences for this clash, with Mexico still missing out on players such as Hirving Lozano and Jesús Corona. On the other hand, Igor Sergeyev's absence for Uzbekistan will be the main cause for concern, mainly because his partnership with Shomurodov will be missed by Uzbekistani fans.
