Following the embarrassing 4-1 loss at home to Japan, Germany decided to sack manager Hansi Flick. However, will the four-time FIFA World Cup champions end up with Jurgen Klopp in the dugout ahead of Euro 2024?
The Liverpool boss has been linked with the job, and for obvious reasons, given his nationality and his undeniable quality. Rudi Völler has replaced Flick and was in charge for Tuesday's 2-1 win over France but the 63-year-old was merely appointed on an interim basis, meaning the hunt for a permanent successor continues.
Links between Klopp and the German national team job are not new. However, with Liverpool's fortunes having taken a dip lately, many are wondering whether Jurgen has the same commitment towards Anfield.
The answer has finally arrived, with the former Dortmund boss publicly responding to the rumors through his agent. According to the Liverpool tactician's representative, Klopp has no plans to leave his current job before the end of his contract.
The 56-year-old's current deal with the Reds runs until 2026, which means Germany will have to look elsewhere for Flick's successor. Speaking to Sportschau, Jurgen's agent Marc Kosicke said:
"Jurgen has a long-term contract with LFC and is not available for the national coaching position."
This might be tremendous news for Julian Nagelsmann, who is also on the national team's radar, as the former Bayern Munich boss remains unemployed after Chelsea and Tottenham opted against appointing the 36-year-old.
Liverpool fans, meanwhile, will also welcome this news as their club has improved under Klopp as of late. Salah and Co. kicked off the season with a dysfunctional performance against Chelsea, drawing 1-1, but have gotten better in the subsequent games.
The Merseyside giants currently sit in third with 10 points out of a possible 12 and are preparing for a trip to Wolves this Saturday.
