The Polish side struggled to get the coach's idea, which has seen them put their options to play the UEFA Euro next year in jeopardy.

After just eight months, coach Fernando Santos will have to seek for pastures new.

The seasoned Portuguese boss has been relieved from his duties by the Polish Football Federation, who are trying to shake things up within the group after losing three out of six games under the former A Selecao boss.

In a brief press release, the team announced that Santos would cease to be Poland's coach, effective immediately.

"The Polish Football Association wishes to inform that, as of September 13 2023, Fernando Santos will leave his position as team coach," the press release states.

Poland won their first match in September's international break against Faroe Islands (2-0), but their second fixture against Albania saw them lose two-nil, which prompted a furious rant by captain Robert Lewandowski, who seemed to seal Santos' fate by demanding a change. That change has come three days after his words, with Santos leaving the spot as team's tactician.

The relationship between Santos, his staff, and the Polish players was reportedly not the best, which may be an explanation on why the team underperformed while Santos was still in charge.

Poland are fourth in Group E of the UEFA Euro Qualifiers behind Albania, Czech Republic, and Moldova. If things do not improve for them, the Orly may be forced to be involved in a playoff to seal their spot in the competition, but judging by their recent performances, the incoming coach will have a lot of work to do to see that happening.
