Inter Miami will hope to rebound following a disappointing result as they host fellow struggling side Toronto on Wednesday, September 20th

With the 2023 MLS season approaching its final stages, Inter Miami will approach their upcoming game against Toronto with a clear sense of urgency. The Herons currently sit in 14th spot, and have quite a lot of work to do if they want to be able to snatch a late play-off spot. Although they have seen a resurgence recently since the arrival of Lionel Messi, their unbeaten run came to an end last round as they were beaten 5-2 by Atlanta United to snap a 12 match unbeaten streak across all comps.

Gerardo Martino's men now need to somehow narrow a seven point gap with just seven matches to go, but could make major inroads as they will be hosting Toronto, who are in last spot in the Eastern Conference. The visitors have been in absolutely awful form, and despite making a mid-season managerial switch, positive results continue to elude them.

Indeed, Toronto, who have won just four times all season, are also the lowest-scoring team in the league, with just a measly 24 goals scored this far. They have lost nine of their last ten MLS games and are the only team in the league who have yet to win an away game. As such, this could present a great opportunity for Inter Miami, who occupy the penultimate spot in the Eastern Conference and will really need to start putting together some good results if they want to have a fighting chance of sneaking into the post-season playoff tournament.

Inter Miami's home record, which has seen them go seven games sans defeat, could also play a key part in the Herons rebounding from their setback in their prior match. Martino will also be hoping to welcome Messi back for this game after the Argentinian superstar missed out on the team's last match following a knock picked up while on international duty.

Team news: Inter Miami vs Toronto

Toronto: Cassius Mailula, Sean Johnson, Prince Osei Owusu, Greg Ranjitsingh, Cristian Gutierrez, and Adama Diomande are all unavailable for the visiting side.
