Only two games -or three, if you are Inter Miami- are left in the 2023 MLS Season, and the fight to reach the postseason is at its peak. There are not so many spots in the playoffs left to be allocated, which is why some of this weekend's matches could give us do-or-die scenarios.

One of those teams looking for a spot in the next round is precisely the club from Miami, who are on the verge of being eliminated of the tournament despite Messi's arrival. The player's absence in the past games has hit Gerardo Martino's team hard, and now it seems that only a miracle could see them through. Their game this weekend is a tough test, as Cincinnati make it to DRV PNK Stadium ready to show why they secured the MLS Supporters' Shield with weeks left to be played.

As things stand, Chicago, Montreal, Portland, San José, and Dallas have the upper hand in search for the playoffs, but there will be a fixture between two of these teams that could have a positive -or negative- effect in their playoff hopes.

Messi nominated to MLS MVP award despite playing four league games with Inter Miami

Lionel Messi's impact in MLS football continues to be exposed, and in a quite controversial decision, Inter Miami's star has been nominated to the MLS MVP award, even if he has only performed in four MLS matches for the Herons. Out of those games, Messi started three games and came off the bench in one, scoring one goal and handing out two assists. Nevertheless, there are some who believe that the Argentine should not be up to win this award, especially if the club does not make the postseason with him recovering from an injury.

Minnesota United part ways with only coach in team history

The end of an era has come at Minnesota United, as coach Adrian Heath has left the club by mutual consent. Up to this point, the Loons had Heath as their only boss since they joined the league in 2017, which will force them to hire a new tactician. Heath's departure comes as a result of a seven-game streak without a win, which has seen MUFC drop to 12th in the Western Conference, and even though they still have a chance to reach the playoffs, the environment surrounding the team needed to be shaken up. The club has revealed that Sean McAuley will guide them in their final two games of the season.

Two MLS players make Berhalter's squad for October's international break

The end of the MLS season will have to be put on hold for the next weeks due to the international break, and among those players that were called up by their national teams, there will be two men representing the Stars and Stripes for the next ten days. Defenders Miles Robinson and DeJuan Johnson will be joining the USMNT in their matches against Germany and Ghana, two matches that will come in handy for Gregg Berhalter's team as they prepare for the upcoming Concacaf Nations League, which will grant access to the 2024 Copa América.
