Four teams battle for the final two spots to play in Liga MX's liguilla, starting next week. Keep track of the games with our detailed guide for both matches.

The postseason stage is here for Liga MX fans and experts to enjoy. But before we get going with the proper quarterfinal stage, there are still two spots left to be determined in the exciting Liguilla, which will be sorted out in coming days.

Previously, the Mexican top-flight had a Wild Card stage prior to the start of the final round, which included eight teams. Now, to make things more even, league execs reduced that number in half and came up with the idea of a play in, much like the one used by the NBA. This stage will be played by the teams ranked between seventh and tenth place: Atlético San Luis, León, Santos Laguna, and Mazatlán.

The format of this stage is quite simple, as it only includes three games. The winner of the first match will take the No.7 seed in the playoffs, while the loser will wait for the winner of the second clash. Once those identities are known, those clubs will go on to fight for the final spot in the Liguilla, in a game scheduled to be played on Sunday.

Without further ado, here's what we can expect from both matches.

Atlético San Luis vs León - The last games between San Luis and León have ended in wins for the hosts, bu those matches are far from being a reference here. San Luis ended their run in this competition with no wins in their last five games, losing four. The same can be said about León, who only claimed one win in their last five matches to reach this stage, even when they were one of the top contenders all season long. It will not be an easy match to predict, but given the home-field advantage and how San Luis have handled their recent games against León, it would be safe to say that the most accurate bet would see the red and white club making it to the Liguilla and forcing León to the final play-in match.

Santos Laguna vs Mazatlán - The second match of the evening will see Santos trying to defend their ground against the surprisingly tough team from Sinaloa. Santos won three of their five most recent fixtures, but one of those ended in defeat against their rivals on Thursday evening, which could be taken as a good sign for the away side. Meanwhile, Mazatlán face the chance to make it to their first-ever liguilla, but to do so they will have to overcome a woeful record of only two away wins in eight road matches this season. The stakes are higher than ever for this game, and while Mazatlán's "Cinderella" story may be appealing to some, having to face Santos' aces Juan Brunetta and Harold Preciado may be too much to handle for them, which means the safe bet would be to go all in with Los Guerreros.
