Erling Haaland entered Saturday's highly-anticipated showdown between Manchester City and Liverpool with a couple of goals in sight.
The three points are always paramount but the Norwegian was also in search of his first goal against the Reds, having failed to score past Alisson last season across two encounters — in the Community Shield and the away game at Anfield.
However, the Cityzens striker ended his wait for a goal against Liverpool less than half an hour into Saturday's game, with the 23-year-old breaking the deadlock after 27 minutes with some help from Alisson.
The Brazilian keeper's poor attempt to punt the ball up the field saw him cheaply award Man City possession in their own third. Nathan Ake perfectly picked out Haaland who made no mistake in front of goal, giving the hosts a much-needed 1-0 lead.
And with that, not only did Erling end his wait for a goal against Liverpool, but the former Dortmund star also made Premier League history, becoming the quickest player to reach 50 top-flight goals in the competition's history.
Last season's Golden Boot winner surpassed Manchester United icon Andy Cole, the previous record holder, scoring his 50th Premier League goal in what was only his 48th game in the division.

Haaland did so in nearly 20 fewer games than Cole, and while the 23-year-old was destined to break this record at some point, pulling this off against Liverpool makes it all the more special. Check out Erling's record-breaking goal in the clips below (videos are geo-restricted).
