A top-of-the-table Serie A showdown is upon us! Italian top-flight leaders Inter Milan prepare to visit their nearest rivals, Juventus, in a highly-anticipated showdown as both teams aim to end this round at the top of the table.

While Inter Milan have lost a game this season, similar to Juventus, the away side boasts the advantage, having won an extra game compared to their rivals. As a result, the Nerazzurri hold a slim two-point lead over the hosts.

This is mainly down to Inter Milan's impressive form, with Inzaghi's men winning the four games leading up to the recent international break. This includes victories over Roma, Atalanta, and the promising newly-promoted Frosinone — though all but one of those wins came courtesy of a one-goal margin.

The league leaders did slip up against Bologna just over a month ago, while their sole league defeat came at home to Sassuolo, going 2-1 down. Additionally, the Milan giants have also secured progression to the UEFA Champions League round of 16, further proving their quality this season.

Lautaro Martinez has been key to all of this. The Argentine striker, who lost his spot in the national team's lineup during their 2022 FIFA World Cup win, has begun the campaign exceptionally and is leading the Golden Boot race. Will he guide his team to victory in the Derby d'Italia?

Juventus will be a tough nut to crack. One quick look at the stats proves why, with the Bianconeri entering this game having won five in a row before the international break, meaning form favors the hosts.

Additionally, Allegri's men boast one of the best defenses in the league, with only Inter conceding fewer goals. However, while the visitors boast the best attack in the league, Vlahovic and Co. have the fewest goals among Serie A's top seven teams.

The Old Lady has won by a one-goal margin in all of their last four games and has scored two or more goals only twice in their last seven fixtures. Victory on Sunday would see Juventus go top of the table, which would be an amazing feat given that Allegri was tipped to be sacked last season.

However, despite boasting the home advantage, beating Inter Milan this season is easier said than done.

Team news

Juventus: Manuel Locatelli has returned from a rib injury, but Paul Pogba and Nicolo Fagioli remain suspended. Additionally, Adrien Rabiot has served out his suspension and is available for selection.

Inter Milan: Benjamin Pavard and Alessandro Bastoni are both sidelined for this game, with Stefan de Vrij and Matteo Darmian set to deputize. Juan Cuadrado, meanwhile, has recovered from his Achilles injury but is unlikely to start against his former club.

Key stats

  • Juventus has won their last five games in a row and is on a seven-game unbeaten run.

  • Meanwhile, while Inter Milan has won four of their last five, the Nerazzurri haven't lost a game in their last nine games.

  • Inzaghi's men boast the best attack and defense in the league, having scored 29 goals this season while only conceding six.

  • The Nerazzurri have won three of their last six encounters with the Old Lady, losing twice and drawing the other.
