The Blaugrana side is being investigated for financial discrepancies in their most recent reports, which could see them expelled from the tournament.

Just days after Barcelona showed their support to the Superleague, a new probe by UEFA is threatening to leave the club out of the UEFA Champions League or any European competition.

According to an investigation by German newspaper Welt am Sonntag, UEFA's Financial Control Committee is conducting a probe against the Catalan side, which is looking into their financial statements for the past three years, which may include revenue from activities that are not related to football.

The German media outlet has quoted confidential conversations between UEFA officers, who labeled Barcelona's financial statements as an "utter disaster". The newspaper has also quoted these officers stating that the Catalan club could face a "two or three-year ban" from the competition, adding that if there are major losses in their statements, the club could face an even bigger ban.

UEFA had already slapped Barcelona with a €500,000 fine earlier this season for the same reasons stated in the document. That fine and the alleged discrepancies in their books have prompted this investigation and a potential ban from the top club competition in Europe.

Barcelona execs have declined to make any comments, as they claim the club was unaware of such an investigation. Be that as it may, this could mean a big issue for the Blaugrana side if the club cannot justify their financial statements to football's governing body in Europe.
