The 2024 MLS season for Inter Miami is just around the corner, and the team led on the sidelines by Tata Martino and by Lionel Messi on the pitch will start preparing for a grueling campaign with a number of friendlies across the globe.
The first stop for the Herons in their world tour will include a game against El Salvador's national team, one of Concacaf's toughest teams who need to redeem themselves after a disastrous 2023 that ended with their relegation to League B in the Concacaf Nations League. Los Cuscatlecos will use this match to officially unveil coach David Dóniga as their coach, following his appointment earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Inter Miami will be looking to get their new signings in gear. Most notably, fans for the pink and black side will be eager to see Messi and Luis Suárez partnering up again after their glory days at Barcelona. The Uruguayan striker joined Miami on a one-year deal, and he is expected to lead the line with Messi, Robert Taylor, and Leonardo Campana.
This will be the first of many international friendlies for Inter Miami ahead of the start of the new season. In coming days, the Herons will face FC Dallas as the only MLS opposition during their preseason preparations. To make it even more interesting, the club will take a trip to Asia, where they will be facing Al Nassr, Al Hilal, and Vissel Kobe, among others. Once they return, Inter Miami will face Newell's Old Boys, Messi's boyhood club.
While this will be Inter Miami's first game against a team outside of the MLS or Liga MX, El Salvador will put to good use their experience facing clubs. La Selecta will play their 28th game against a club, in a record that includes games against Roma, Southampton, Chelsea, D.C. United, and Hamburg, to name a few.
