Preview

Premier League leaders Liverpool return to action on Sunday to maintain their gap at the top. However, the Reds will be in for a tricky test as they travel to an in-form Bournemouth side looking to take down another English giant.

The Cherries did not start the season well under new manager Andoni Iraola, going without a win in their first nine games of the league campaign. However, the Spanish tactician has turned things around for the club lately.

Solanke and Co. enter this tie having won all but two of their last nine matches, a feat not even Liverpool can boast about. While the hosts lost their last showdown with a Big Six, going down 3-1 away to Tottenham, Iraola's men claimed a historic 3-0 win at Old Trafford recently and will look to take down England's other historic side.

Bournemouth enter this game on the back of a 3-2 victory over Swansea in the FA Cup, with Tavernier, Moore, and Kluivert all getting on the scoresheet and while the Cherries came close to stumbling against a relegation-battling Championship side, Liverpool would be foolish to underestimate their opponent.

Speaking of Liverpool, they are currently top of the league. However, that lead has been slashed to a mere two points following Arsenal's convincing 5-0 victory over Crystal Palace, thus turning up to pressure on Klopp's men.

However, the Reds have been in fantastic form recently, beating Newcastle, Arsenal, and Fulham in their three most recent fixtures. In fact, Van Dijk and Co. have lost only twice in their last 22 matches and both came in the UEFA Europa League where Klopp heavily rotates.

Liverpool's last Premier League defeat was that controversial 2-1 loss back in September, which proves how resilient the Merseyside outfit have been recently. However, Liverpool are without a handful of key players, the most obvious being Mohamed Salah, who departed to join his national team for the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.

With Manchester City and Aston Villa out of action this week, Klopp's men could extend their lead at the top, albeit only temporarily. However, that will require a clinical performance at the Vitality Stadium and while the visitors boast the quality to achieve that, this is not a straightforward task.

Last season, the English giants visited Bournemouth and suffered a frustrating 1-0 loss. Klopp will not want to see a repeat of this amid a heated title race involving two to three other clubs. Do not miss this showdown.

Team news

Bournemouth: Marcos Senesi is suspended for this game and should be replaced by Chris Mepham in the lineup. Tyler Adams, Adam Smith, Milos Kerkez, Ryan Fredericks, and Darren Randolph are all sidelined while Dango Ouattara and Antoine Semenyo are away at the Africa Cup of Nations representing Burkina Faso and Ghana respectively.

Liverpool: As mentioned earlier, Mohamed Salah is away on international duty due to the Africa Cup of Nations but so is Wataru Endo, who is currently representing Japan at the ongoing Asian Cup. Additionally, Andy Robertson, Kostas Tsimikas, and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all injured, leaving Klopp with a selection headache. Stefan Bajcetic, Ben Doak, Thiago Alcantara, and Joel Matip are also on the sidelines.
