The two Liverpool superstars made a mess at the back for Arsenal's second and third goals en route to a frustrating defeat at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal hosted Liverpool in what was a must-win Premier League fixture and fortunately for the North London giants, they came away with a 3-1 victory to swing the title race back open.

Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Leandro Trossard all got on the scoresheet but the talk of the town following this result was a collection of errors that took place, with the headline-grabbing blunders coming from Virgil van Dijk and Alisson.

However, the first eye-catching error in this game came courtesy of William Saliba and David Raya, with the two combining to award Liverpool the equalizer on a golden platter right before half-time. The Frenchman's failure to clear the ball and the Spaniard's refusal to collect it led to a comical goal conceded by the hosts.

In the second half, it was Van Dijk and Alisson's turn to make a mess at the back. The two veterans failed to clear a speculative cross, with Gabriel Martinelli, who was chasing the Dutch center-back, profiting and rolling the ball into an empty net. And if that was not enough, the two Liverpool stars made another mistake, this time for Leandro Trossard's dagger. With only a few minutes left on the clock, the Brazilian shot-stopper let the Belgian ace's shot slip between his legs and into the back of the net.

And with that, Arteta's men have moved within two points of the Merseyside giants. A defeat would have seen them drop eight points behind, hence the importance of this win.

Furthermore, Saka and Co. will face West Ham and Porto in their next three matches, which will be crucial. Points dropped at home to the Reds could have derailed Arsenal's season.

The focus now shifts to Manchester City, who visit Brentford on Monday. The Cityzens could move level with Arsenal on points with a win, which shows how exciting this season's title race is.
