Despite initial reports, the venue currently known as MetLife Stadium will host the most important match of the quadrennial competition.

The most relevant announcement left to be known for the 2026 FIFA World Cup has been revealed, and it was quite a shock for most experts and insiders.

Initial reports suggested that Dallas would welcome the title match for the World Cup set to be played in Canada, Mexico, and the United States, but in the end, FIFA president Gianni Infantino chose to appoint New York/New Jersey as the venue where a new world champion will be crowned.

The city will welcome World Cup games for the second time, having played a substantial role in the 1994 edition, where Giants Stadium hosted seven games. The venue this time will be MetLife Stadium (which will be named differently by FIFA due to sponsorship reasons), a place that opened its gates in 2010.

MetLife Stadium has hosted Concacaf Gold Cup matches and was used as the venue for the title match in the 2016 Copa América Centenario. Additionally, it hosted Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014.
