The final few days of January and the first weekend of February 2024 treated fans to some exciting matches, particularly in the Premier League, with six English top-flight matches making the list of most-watched soccer games in the USA between January 29 and February 4, 2024.
Wolves feature twice on this list, once for their dramatic defeat at home to Manchester United and the other for their 4-2 win at Chelsea. That Stamford Bridge triumph, alongside Tottenham's 2-2 draw away to Everton, garnered the most average viewers for a single Premier League tie (387,000 each). However, no English top-flight fixture made it into last week's top three most-watched games.
That honor went to Liga MX, with the Mexican top-flight taking up all three spots on the podium, starting with Club America's one-all draw with Monterrey. As usual, Univision's coverage earned the most eyeballs, with just over one million average viewers tuning in to watch the Eagles drop points.
The reigning Apertura champions were not the only ones to drop points at home, with Tigres UANL drawing 2-2 against Pumas UNAM, which happens to be second on this list. 782,000 average viewers turned on Univision to catch this tie as the Tigres threw away a two-nil lead to settle for a point.
Completing Univision's clean sweep is Toluca's 4-1 thrashing of Leon. Four different players got their names on the scoresheet in this showdown, which garnered an impressive 439,000 average viewers for TelevisaUnivision's Spanish-language television network. From one top-of-the-table match to another, Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen host reigning champions Bayern Munich in a box-office showdown. Xabi Alonso's side are unbeaten in the league this season and yet are only two points ahead of the Bavarians. The last time these two sides met, they played out a 2-2 draw at the Allianz Arena but a stalemate is not a desirable result for the visitors.
The Asian Cup 2023 and AFCON 2023 wrap up this weekend with Jordan vs. Qatar and Nigeria vs. Ivory Coast finals
The Asian Cup 2023 and AFCON 2023 tournaments come to a wrap this weekend, starting with the Asian Cup, with Jordan taking on hosts Qatar in the final on Saturday at 10 a.m. ET. The Jordanians have never played in the final before and will be aiming to lift the title for the first time in history. The AFCON 2023 final takes place on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET as Nigeria prepare to do battle with hosts Ivory Coast. The Elephants, on the other hand, beat DR Congo 1-0 to qualify for the ultimate game in what has been an astonishing turnaround for the hosts, having finished third in the group. And finally, we have Manchester United's trip to Aston Villa, the standout Premier League fixture of the weekend. Aston Villa, on the flip side, were dumped out of the FA Cup by Pochettino's struggling Chelsea. However, Emery's men are fourth in the league following their 5-0 victory over Sheffield United and will want to avenge their 3-2 loss to Manchester United in the previous fixture.
European soccer returns to Paramount+ as Man City, Real Madrid, and PSG kick off the UEFA Champions League round of 16
European soccer returns this midweek, with the knockout stage kicking off in the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Europa Conference League. Defending champions Manchester City get things underway with their trip to Copenhagen while the competition's most successful team in history Real Madrid visit RB Leipzig. PSG take on Real Sociedad in the most interesting game of this midweek while Bayern Munich face Lazio in Wednesday's other fixture.
The UEFA Europa League and UEFA Europa Conference League knockout round playoffs kick off on Thursday, with Roma facing Feyenoord and AC Milan battling Rennes in the UEL. Fans in the USA can stream all midweek European fixtures live on Paramount+.

It doesn't look like anyone will be able to stop Lyon in the title race this season, as Les Fenottes continue to pull away from the chasing pack thanks to a perfect campaign so far. That being said, other teams, such as PSG, will still be doing their utmost best to close that ten-point gap. Les Parisiens and Lyon will lock horns in arguably the biggest match of this round on Sunday, and USA-based fans will be able to live-stream that match starting at 3 p.m. EST (12 p.m. PST) on DAZN USA.
FA Women's Cup
Over in England, all eyes will be on the FA Women's Cup as the fifth round gets underway this weekend. The action commences on Saturday, February 10th with two matches: Leicester City vs Birmingham City followed by Tottenham vs Charlton Athletic.
Sunday's games include an intriguing clash between WSL title aspirants Arsenal and Manchester City, while Chelsea, who are the reigning champions in this competition, will hope to take one step closer to retaining their crown when they face second-tier side Crystal Palace.
Frauen-Bundesliga
Meanwhile, in Germany, the title race has taken yet another twist. Wolfsburg have slid down into second following their 1-1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen, while Bayern Munich have regained top spot after cruising to a 4-0 win over Freiburg. Meanwhile, Eintracht Frankfurt are still hoping to have a say in the race and could force their way into contention if they can pick up all three points against Wolfsburg on Sunday. Bayern Munich, who are now one point clear, could expand their lead (for 24 hours) should they beat Cologne in their away match taking place on Saturday.
What to watch in women's soccer: February 12 to February 15
Serie A (Women)
In addition to the usual batch of games taking place over the weekend, this upcoming week will feature another round of games from Italy's top flight. The action starts on Tuesday, February 13th, as league leaders Roma will look to continue on their steady march towards retaining their Scudetto title when they host a Sassuolo side hoping to secure a spot in the top half of the table.
On Wednesday, a triple-header is on the cards, starting with Como, who are also looking to improve their fortunes, welcoming Fiorentina, who are keen on pipping Juventus to second spot, which would give the Viola a chance to participate in the Champions League next season. After this game, both Sampdoria and AC Milan will have their respective reasons for trying to pick a much-needed win, before it's on to an intriguing clash starring Inter Milan and Juventus.
The midweek round concludes with newly promoted Napoli hoping they can secure what would be their first win of the season at the expense of fellow strugglers Pomigliano.
Liga F
Fans of Liga F will be in for a real treat on Valentine's Day with two great games coming up. First up will be league leaders Barcelona looking to keep the rest of the chasing pack at bay when they take on Levante, followed by another installment of the Madrid derby starring Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.
Viewers in the USA can live-stream both games via DAZN USA, with Barcelona-Levante kicking off at 12 p.m. EST (9 am PST) while Atletico Madrid-Real Madrid will get underway at 2 pm EST (11 am PST).

The win is the England star's second of the season after clinching the same prize back in November, and her recent uptick in goal-scoring has moved her second in the race for the Golden Boot, one goal behind Manchester City's Khadija "Bunny" Shaw.
UWCL knockout rounds set
The draw for the knockout rounds of the 2023/24 UWCL got underway earlier this week, and fortunately for fans hoping to see the tournament's biggest sides facing off at a later stage, they certainly got their wish. Barcelona, Lyon, and Chelsea are arguably the teams with the best chance of winning it, with the Blaugrana keen on successfully defending their title. The Spanish giants will face surprise package Brann in the quarterfinals next month, with the Norwegian side hoping to show that they are not just there to make up the numbers. Meanwhile, Lyon, who are the most successful side in this competition, will be wary of a Benfica squad who were quite impressive during their group stage campaign as they finished in second spot behind Barcelona.
Elsewhere, Chelsea, who are in the running for multiple titles this season, will take on Ajax, while Paris Saint-Germain will face another surprise Scandinavian package in Swedish side Häcken.

Rasmus Højlund makes Manchester United history with opening goal vs. West Ham
The Danish striker started for his team in their Premier League showdown with West Ham, and rightfully so, having scored in his three previous top-flight outings for the Red Devils. And he wasted no time in leaving his mark, breaking the deadlock in the 23rd minute via a well-worked goal to give his club the lead.
The combination of a lovely dummy and a low-drilled shot earned him his ninth goal of the season. Furthermore, he also made Premier League history along the way on what was his 21st birthday.

Mexico City will host the opening match of 2026 FIFA World Cup
The 2026 World Cup will come with historic events for the entire competition, and the opening match will not be an exception.
Just like in 1970 and 1986, Mexico's Estadio Azteca will host the opening game in 2026, beating cities such as New York and Dallas. Canada and the United States will also have opening matches, but things will kick off in Mexico for the third time.

2026 World Cup final set to be held in New York on July 19
The most relevant announcement left to be known for the 2026 FIFA World Cup has been revealed, and it was quite a shock for most experts and insiders.
Initial reports suggested that Dallas would welcome the title match for the World Cup set to be played in Canada, Mexico, and the United States, but in the end, FIFA president Gianni Infantino chose to appoint New York/New Jersey as the venue where a new world champion will be crowned.
The city will welcome World Cup games for the second time, having played a substantial role in the 1994 edition, where Giants Stadium hosted seven games. The venue this time will be MetLife Stadium (which will be named differently by FIFA due to sponsorship reasons), a place that opened its gates in 2010.

France to play Italy and Belgium in Nations League
World Cup runners-up France, European champions Italy and Belgium will face off in the 2024-25 UEFA Nations League, while holders Spain will be favorites to win a group comprising Denmark, Switzerland, and Serbia.
"By the way it's set up in League A, the best teams are there, so there will inevitably be these big matches," said Deschamps, who coached France to victory in the second edition of the competition in 2021.
