After a shock loss in the first leg, all eyes will be on Bayern as they aim to turn their fortunes around against Lazio in round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League.

Things have gone terribly awry for Bayern Munich as of late.

Die Roten have enjoyed an unprecedented level of dominance in the Bundesliga for well over a decade to the point that critics have expressed frustration that the German giants have turned the title race into a one-horse competition. However, this time around, they are not guaranteed to add another Bundesliga trophy to their already huge prize haul as they are a whopping ten points behind current league leaders Bayer Leverkusen. Nor will they be adding another DFB-Pokal after another shock early exit in that competition.

As such, Bayern Munich naturally have turned their attention towards the Champions League - yet that has not gone the way many would expect. Pitted against Lazio in the round of 16, many figured it should be a straight-forward win for a team who have vastly more experience in this competition than their Italian counterparts. Indeed, prior to facing Lazio last month for the first leg, Bayern were enjoying an impressive 12 match unbeaten streak (W10 D2) against Italian clubs.

In addition, while Bayern are making their 16th consecutive appearance in the Champions League round of 16, Lazio are only featuring at this juncture for the third time. However, a reckless foul by Dayot Upamecano gave the Aquile the lifeline they desperately needed, and now, it's Maurizio Sarri's side who lead the series 1-0 following Ciro Immobile's converted penalty. In addition, Bayern Munich shockingly have won just one of their last five games across all competitions, with their 1-0 loss to Lazio sandwiched by back to back defeats to Bayer Leverkusen (3-0) and surprisingly, struggling Bochum (3-2).

Meanwhile, Lazio, who sit in ninth spot, have not been in good form in Serie A. The Biancocelesti have won just two of their last five domestic games, but do have a shot at winning the Coppa Italia after securing a spot in the semi-finals. Certainly, they do have a slender advantage after winning the first leg 1-0, but they will be now facing a Bayern side who will be quite determined to avoid what would be an embarrassing early exit. Key Bayern striker Harry Kane is still looking to score what would be his first goal in the UCL knockout round stages, and despite Bayern's poor form as of late, they, on paper, at least, are expected to overturn this tie and secure a spot in the quarter-finals.

Of course, football is unpredictable, and Lazio just may cause what would be a huge upset at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday evening.
