The Merseyside giants are going through a horrid injury crisis but one star player has returned to training just days ahead of the Man City clash.

Liverpool are gearing up for arguably the most important game of the weekend, with the Premier League leaders hosting defending champions Manchester City this Sunday. And with that game being only a few days away, Jurgen Klopp's side have received a huge injury boost.

The Reds are currently top of the table, sitting a point ahead of the Cityzens, but are suffering from a horrid injury crisis, with over five first-team players currently on the sidelines. However, Liverpool's main man has just made his return ahead of that highly-anticipated Anfield battle.

As revealed by Sky Sports during the club's preparation for Thursday's UEFA Europa League showdown with Sparta Praha, Mohamed Salah is finally back. The Egyptian ace was spotted on the training pitch with his teammates, going through the drills in what is a huge boost for the quadruple chasers.

The 31-year-old has been absent from his club since picking up a hamstring injury at the recent Africa Cup of Nations. This forced the attacker to end his tournament prematurely and while he made a fantastic cameo off the bench in the 4-1 win over Brentford in mid-February, the superstar suffered a relapse and has been out since.

Salah's return is crucial. Liverpool are preparing for the title run-in and will need their best players fit and running. Alisson and Trent Alexander-Arnold unfortunately remain unavailable but seeing Mohamed back is tremendous for the Merseyside giants.

The former Roma winger has an impressive 24 goal contributions in the league so far despite making only 21 appearances and will be hoping to add to his tally in their pursuit of the title.

With Klopp leaving at the end of this season, Liverpool are keen on winning the Premier League in the German manager's final campaign. That will not be easy, however, as Manchester City and Arsenal are hot on their heels, with Guardiola's men trailing by a point while Saka and Co. are only two behind.

It remains unclear whether Salah will be in contention for the Manchester City game. The Reds cannot afford to lose at home to their bitter rivals as that could see them drop to third.
