Matchday 7 in Major League Soccer gets underway this weekend, with Inter Miami hosting New York City in one of the earlier kick-offs. Chase Stadium will be the venue for this match as the hosts aim to return to winning ways ahead of a crucial midweek showdown in the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

Tata Martino's men enter this round to bounce back from last week's dreadful result. The Florida heavyweights, who had to once again make do without Lionel Messi, enter this game on the back of a disappointing defeat away to the New York Red Bulls last Saturday. Scottish attacker Lewis Morgan absolutely shredded Luis Suarez and Co. to pieces that day, scoring a hat-trick en route to a 4-0 defeat for the Herons.

Inter Miami still sit second in the Eastern Conference despite that result, with leaders Cincinnati boasting a mere one-point lead. However, Martino's side are level on points with Columbus, New York Red Bulls, and Toronto despite playing one more game than all three teams plus Cincinnati.

Furthermore, fans cannot say that the 4-0 defeat came out of nowhere. Inter Miami have won all but two of their opening six matches in the new MLS campaign but despite this, the Herons have shown defensive frailties throughout the campaign, with their unrivaled attacking prowess often bailing them out.

Messi's fitness continues to worry the home side, and with a crucial CONCACAF Champions Cup quarterfinal showdown with Monterrey fast approaching, Martino will be tasked with keeping an eye on that fixture while having to return to winning ways this weekend.

As for the visitors, New York City have not enjoyed a strong start to the season like their neighbors the New York Red Bulls. While the hosts are second in the table, the away side are second from bottom, with only New England (1 point) boasting a worse tally.

Nick Cushing's side enjoyed a lovely comeback win over Toronto two weeks ago, but that 2-1 triumph remains their one and only victory this season in the MLS. Additionally, the Boys in Blue followed that up with another defeat, albeit a slim 1-0 loss away to Eastern Conference leaders Cincinnati.

Regardless, that was their fourth defeat of the campaign and after missing out on the MLS Cup Playoffs last season by two points, New York City could have done without this horrible start in their attempt to make amends.

Additionally, Santiago Rodriguez and Co. have struggled recently at Chase Stadium, the venue for this fixture. New York City have failed to win in their last two visits to that ground but the visitors cannot afford to drop points against the Florida-based franchise.

Team news

Inter Miami: Lionel Messi missed last week's defeat due to a muscle issue and appears set to sit this tie out in order to be fit for the Monterrey clash. Countryman Federico Redondo is also sidelined for this tie, but the young midfielder is set for a longer spell on the sidelines. Robbie Robinson, Ian Fray, Facundo Farias, Nicolas Freire, and Benjamin Cremaschi all missed last week's defeat, meaning Martino will likely be without additional players.

New York City: Keaton Parks is back from suspension but the visitors will be without Talles Magno and Maxi Moralez. Meanwhile, Tomas Romero, Jovan Mijatovic, Christian McFarlane, Mitja Ilenic, Tayvon Gray, and Monsef Bakrar missed the last fixture due to international duty but should be available for selection this week.
