The center-back has been tipped to join Los Blancos this summer but a move away now looks unlikely.

Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana has suffered a horrific leg injury ahead of the upcoming football season. The 20-year-old center-back was stretchered off following a bad challenge in Leicester's pre-season fixture against Villarreal on Wednesday.

The night's clash eventually ended 3-2 in favor of the Foxes with Carglar Soyuncu, Harvey Barnes and Ayoze Perez getting on the scoresheet for the Premier League outfit. However the win was marred by Fofana picking up an injury that could see him on the sidelines for as long as possible.

With all of his side's goals having already been scored, the young Frenchman found himself at the receiving end of a lunging scissor challenge from behind by Villarreal's Fer Nino. Fofana was left with what appeared to be a snapped ankle and immediately received a lengthy treatment on the field by the Leicester City medics before being carried off on a stretcher. His offender, however, evaded any sanctions but has since been met with massive backlash from fans on social media.

While the official diagnosis is yet to be revealed by the King Power outfit, reports from the UK media have indicated that the player has fractured his fibula and would be absent for at east three months. The news undoubtedly comes at the worst possible time for both Leicester and the player's camp with recent reported having stated that Real Madrid are keen on his signing.

Los Blancos have already lost veteran center-backs Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane, with the former opting for a free transfer to Paris Saint-Germain while the latter is closing in on a move to Manchester United. With David Alaba joining the Spanish club on a free transfer earlier this summer, Carlo Ancelotti's side is keen on bolstering their ranks once more and have identified Wesley Fofana as a prospective signing.

Needless to say, Fofana's latest mishap could see Real Madrid pulling the brakes on any potential deal. Following his plight, he took to his Twitter page to assure fans that he will return in no time although he may miss a few crucial games for the Foxes in the new season.
