A clash between Chelsea and Wolfsburg headlined UWCL group stages Matchday 1 of and lived up to expectations.

Australian ace Samantha Kerr opened the scoring in the twelfth minute, giving Chelsea an early lead. Wolfsburg answered back with a goal five minutes later via forward Tabea Wabmuth. Dutch striker Jill Roord scored a go-ahead goal before halftime and Wabmuth scored her second of the night three minutes into the second half. However, the Blues rallied back to draw the match thanks to former Wolfsburg forward Pernille Harder’s goal in injury time.

Reigning UWCL champions Barcelona tore apart an Arsenal side that remains undefeated in FA WSL play. The Gunners were not able to handle Barca’s firepower despite their positive form in league play. UEFA Player of the Year, and favorite to win the 2021 Ballon d’Or, Alexia Putellas inspired the 4-1 win with a goal early in the first half.

Benfica turned heads last week when they forced a goalless draw against reigning Frauen Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich at home. The Portuguese champions held their own with compact defending.

UWCL Group Stage Matchday 2 

The two most exciting matchups of Matchday 2 are Juventus against Chelsea on Wednesday and Arsenal against Hoffenheim on Thursday.

Juventus and Chelsea, two domestic league reigning champions, will meet at Juventus Stadium on Wednesday at 3 p.m. ET. The two teams arrive in second place in their respective leagues and looking to go into international break on a good note with a European League win. 

On the other hand, Arsenal and Hoffenheim will clash at Meadow Park on Thursday at 3 p.m. ET. The Gunners will look to avenge their embarrassing away loss at Barcelona on Matchday 1. Meanwhile, Hoffenheim will aim to win back-to-back Champions League games.
