Barcelona will look to dust themselves and return to winning ways following Sunday's defeat to Real Madrid in El Clasico.

Preview

Barcelona travel to Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday looking to rebound from a disappointing Clasico loss to Real Madrid the previous weekend. Los Blaugrana's struggles under manager Ronald Koeman were drawn out once more with their fiercest rivals coming to town to snatch a 2-1 at Camp Nou. Goals from David Alaba and Lucas Vazquez condemned the Catalans to their first home defeat of the season with Sergio Aguero scoring the consolation goal in his debut for the club.

Having managed the third-worst form in La Liga this season, the time is ripe for Barca to make amends and the clash with Rayo Vallecano could not have come at a more appropriate time. Prior to the loss against Real Madrid, the Camp Nou outfit had registered successive wins against Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League and Valencia in La Liga after picking up just one win from six matches that preceded those games.

The onus is on Koeman to make a case for himself with speculations suggesting that an imminent sack could be on the cards. However, the fact that Barcelona has not lost a game against Rayo Vallecano in almost 20 years should at least spur the Dutch manager on to potentially spark a turnaround for his struggling side. Any result but a win for the Blaugrana could further fuel the crisis at the club, especially considering the fact that the now occupy a mid-table spot after amassing just 15 points from possible 27.

For Rayo Vallecano, there is no better morale-booster than seating above Barcelona ahead of the mid-week's match up. Andoni Iraola's side has played a game more than their visitors and have managed to accumulate 16 points in the process. Just like Barca, their home form has been their strongest suit as they currently rank third on the list of teams with the most points won at home this season with 12 points from four outings.

The go into Wednesday's clash on he back of a disappointing 3-2 defeat away to Real Betis. Despite conceding two quick-fire goals in the first half of the weekend's match-up, the Estadio de Vallecas outfit fought back to keep the scoreline at 2-2, only for Willian Jose to deny them a point with a 75th-minute spot-kick. Prior to the Sunday's disappointment, they had picked up just one defeat in seven outings, winning six and drawing the remaining one game.

On paper, the form of Rayo should be enough to land them a favorable result against a struggling Barcelona side. However, with the stakes higher than usual, the result will not be straight forward for the host.
