The new orders will govern the Blaugrana dressing room from now onwards.

It has been barely three days since Xavi's appointment as the new Barcelona boss but the former Blaugrana skipper is already becoming a popular figure with the methods he has introduced. The 41-year-old Spanish coach has reportedly revealed a set of rules that he seeks to implement in order to change the culture at his boyhood club and restore their image as a heavyweight in European football.

Xavi Hernandez was officially unveiled at Camp Nou as Ronald Koeman's successor on Monday after a week of negotiations with his now former club Al-Sadd. The legendary midfielder has made a return to the Barca six years after ending his career there and pursuing a new spell as a player/coach for the Qatari club. His success story which includes winning the Qatar Stars League last season alongside five different titles enticed club president Joan Laporta to endorse his recruitment to take charge as the Blauragana aim to get out of their crisis.

Having promised to deliver more discipline, the shift in attitude is already becoming prevalent at the Barcelona dressing room, with Gerard Pique being the first player to be on the receiving end of the new treatment by his former teammate. Report from Catalan media have revealed that Pique had a TV interview scheduled for next week with a show called El Hormiguero, hosted by Pablo Motos. However, due to the arrival of Xavi, the interview has now been cancelled.

Xavi subsequently spoke to a few players who were available for his first training session as several key men had traveled to their respective national teams for the international break. In the meeting which had a number of the injured players in attendance, the former Barcelona skipper outlined the following rules as per AS:

  • Players must arrive for training at least an hour and a half early.

  • Staff must arrive at least two hours early.

  • Players must eat at Cuitat Esportiva. Fines will be in place for lateness and will multiply per offence.

  • Fines have been reinstituted.

  • Exponential sanctions

  • No arriving home after 12am within 48 hours of a game.

  • Starting spots awarded completely based on performances in training.

  • There are no guarantees for any players.

  • Risky activities (such as surfing) are prohibited during the season.

  • Players must represent Barcelona properly whether they are around the club or away on holiday.
