The 2021-22 season will be remembered by Barcelona's fall from grace, which comes coincidentally after Lionel Messi's exit.

The end of a disappointing group stage has come for Barcelona, and now the Blaugrana side will have to settle with playing in the Europa League as the only option to continue involved in continental competitions this season.

The Blaugrana side succumbed in spectacular fashion against Bayern, who seemed to take their foot off the gas during the second half of the game in order to keep things respectful between both clubs. Bayern completed a 6-0 "aggregate" score in both group stage games against Los Culés, and that feat helped them reach the next round with a perfect record of six wins in the same number of games.

But now, it's time to talk about Barcelona's woeful run in the continental tournament. Whether Ronald Koeman or Xavi Hernández were inside the team's dugout, the team failed to come up with the brand of football they were used to give to their fans. Their poor form saw them score only twice in six UCL games this season, which by no means can be seen as a good performance by Los Blaugranas.

And now, over to the facts that will make Barcelona fans cringe. First off, the team will be playing in the UEFA Europa League for the first time in seventeen years...exactly the same amount of years Messi spent with the first team.

If that was not cringe-worthy enough for Los Culés' fans, their failure to make it to the next round of the UEFA CL becomes only the second time in this century in which they have experienced an early exit from this competition.

Now, over to their meetings against Bayern. The Bavarian side has terrorized Los Culés like no other club in such a short span of games, and it seems unlikely to see that trend going away soon.

Things have simply escalated for Los Culés since that 8-2 defeat, but their overall performances when facing the German titans have been quite baffling.

The team's disappointing run in this edition of the continental tournament will surely be the highlight of what have been some dismal years for Los Blaugranas, and quite frankly, it represents one of the lowest points in history of a legendary team.
