It was a case of mixed results for England's top six as a hectic week of back to back to back games concluded this weekend.

Last weekend concluded a very hectic week for Premier League fans, as most of the teams featuring in English football's upper echelon played three games in just the span of seven days. Some teams had a great run, others, not so much, so depending on what team you support, you either were celebrating or threw your hands up in frustration.

Here's what happened in the Premier League this past weekend.

Premier League key headlines, stats, and other facts

More woes for Tottenham: After losing two on the spin, Tottenham were desperate to get back to winning ways as they slide further and further behind the top four. However, it wasn't to be, as Wolves snatched a 2-0 win to heap more misery on Antonio Conte's side and move up the table into seventh. The loss also sets a rather unwanted precedent for Spurs, who now have lost three in a row at least twice in the same season for the first time since 2004/2005.

Manchester United match unwanted record: Last weekend saw United have to settle for a draw with Burnley, which marks the second consecutive game they took a 1-0 lead and failed to win. That has only happened once before in the Red Devils' entire history - back in 1998. All eyes will be on them as they face Brighton in their make-up game on Tuesday - will the English giants finally be able to get their act together?

Newcastle finally turning things around? They have quite a ways to go to get fully out of danger of relegation, but Newcastle won at the weekend, bringing their total to three wins on the trot. It's the first time they've done this since winning three on the spin when Rafa Benitez was in charge back in November 2018.

Top Premier League matches: February 19 - February 20, 2022

Arsenal vs Brentford: The Gunners will come into this match more rested than many of the other sides as they weren't in action at the weekend, and given that they finished in eighth last season, there's no European football on the calendar. That means, in theory, Mikel Arteta's side should be able to ease to a straightforward win over a Brentford side who've picked up just one point from their last five. However, Brentford did beat Arsenal 2-0 at the start of the season, so despite their opponents' woes as of late, anything is possible.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea: Fresh off winning the Club World Cup, it's set to be a very busy week for Chelsea, who will be in action against Lille midweek as the Blues aim to defend their Champions League title. There won't be much breathing room for Thomas Tuchel's side, as just days later, it's back to Premier League action as they travel to face fellow London side Crystal Palace. As things stand, the Blues are presently in third place, but still do have a game in hand, and they'll look to take advantage of a Crystal Palace side who are winless in their last five Premier League games.

Liverpool vs Norwich City: Liverpool also have a hectic week ahead, as before facing relegation-threated Norwich City, the Reds will take on reigning Scudetto champs Inter in an intriguing round of 16 Champions League tie. With that in mind, Jurgen Klopp will likely rotate his squad for the game against Norwich in order to keep everyone fighting fit over the course of the two legged clash against the Nerazzurri. As for Norwich, their small positive streak, which had seen them win two and draw the other of their last three games, was snapped predictably as they were beaten by Manchester City.

Manchester City vs Tottenham: Any clash featuring any of England's "Big Six" is always set to be an interesting one, but with Spurs in the form they are in right now, it's safe to say they won't be looking forward to taking on the league leaders. City have been going from strength to strength, and with four wins out of their last quintet of games, Pep Guardiola's men have opened up a comfortable nine point lead over the chasing pack. They've also been given a more favorable draw in the Champions League, avoiding teams like Bayern, PSG, and Real Madrid for now, but it's likely that Guardiola will need to manage his squad carefully as they will face Spurs after their Champions League outing against Sporting CP.

Leeds United vs Manchester United: Can Manchester United get themselves out of the doldrums? That's certainly the question on many observers' minds as the Red Devils face Leeds United on Sunday, but before then, they'll have a chance to get things going when they take on Brighton in their make-up game on Tuesday. Last round saw United have to settle for a draw with Burnley, which marks the second consecutive game they took a 1-0 lead and failed to win. That has only happened once before in the Red Devils' entire history - back in 1998.
