Mourinho potentially facing ban

Mourinho reportedly in danger of ban after scuffle with referee

February 21, 2022 By Michelle Bonsu
The Giallorossi boss could apparently be facing a ban after reportedly fighting with a referee following his side's frustrating 2-2 draw with Hellas Verona.

Simply put, it hasn't been a good past few weeks for Roma. The Giallorossi, who brought in highly decorated tactician Jose Mourinho in a bid to boost their chances at qualifying for the top four, have had a miserable February. Indeed, the capital-based club's last win was a 4-2 result over Empoli back on January 23rd; since then, they've lost one and drawn three of their last four games across all comps.

Roma's 2-0 loss to Inter in the Coppa Italia incurred the wrath of Mourinho, who lashed out at his players following the defeat to his former side. Mourinho's frustration certainly hasn't abated, as he's had to see his team fail to pick up wins against smaller sides that they should be beating if they want to have a fighting chance at seriously competing with Juventus, Inter, Napoli, and Milan for a place in the Champions League next season.

However, Roma were only able to settle for draws with Genoa (0-0), Sassuolo (2-2) and most recently, Hellas Verona (2-2). Although the Lupi were able to battle from 2-0 goals down to salvage a draw at the Stadio Olimpico, Mourinho was still sent off making what officials deemed to be an "offensive gesture":

And that's not all. Mourinho had plenty to say to the officials, too.

One referee, Luca Pairetto, especially seemed to anger him, especially as it's been now revealed that his brother has worked for Juventus for the past eight years. Meanwhile, his father also was a Serie A ref, but was one of many officials swept up and convicted during the infamous Calciopoli scandal.

This is certainly what Mourinho was referring to when he apparently shouted at Pairetto, "They sent you here on purpose, Juventus sent you" as per Italian publication La Stampa.

As a result, the Roma boss could end up being slapped with a further ban, which could be for two, possibly three matches.
