Rumour had been making the rounds in top English newspapers, that Wayne Rooney might face a summer exit after falling out with his manager, however Sir Alex has reported that there is no truth to such rumours.
Rooney was dramatically dropped to the bench, for United’s important Champions League clash against Real Madrid on Tuesday night. The news instantly caused shockwaves on twitter, with football fans astounded at Ferguson’s decision.

One of these tweets came from Rooney’s wife Coleen, who expressed her disbelief just like many other United fans did.

“I can’t believe @WayneRooney isn’t starting tonight!!!,” she tweeted.

According to The Times newspaper, the ex Everton man remained calm upon Fergie’s revelation of the starting eleven, but later expressed his anger in front of his teammates on being left out.

However when confronted with the issue, Ferguson reacted irritably and denied that there was any truth to the “rubbish”.

"The Wayne Rooney nonsense first? Or do you want to talk sense? Snapped Ferguson at the reporters.

"The issue you're all going on about is rubbish. There's absolutely no issue between Wayne Rooney and I. “

It is believed that the relationship between the Scot and Rooney has been tarnished, ever since Rooney asked for a transfer almost two and a half years back and reiterated that United lacked ambition. Even though he did sign a contract eventually, it is believed that the damage had already been caused and the connection between the two was strained.

However Sir Alex once again refused to accept any such allegations, and stated that the decision to not play the star striker was tactical and that Rooney would still be a Manchester United player next season.

"The suggestion we don't talk on the training ground is nonsense. The decision to not play him was purely tactical and he understood that. Wayne will be here next year, you have my word on that."

It is difficult to believe that Sir Alex was being entirely honest when speaking to the reporters, and the Rooney exit rumours are likely to furnace as we approach the summer transfer window.

With 12 goals and 12 assists, Rooney has been one of the key players to United’s success this season. He no longer operates as a striker but functions in a free role, and contributes heavily to the defensive as well as the attacking department.

His importance to the club and his star status make it impossible to accept that there exists a tactic within the regime of Manchester United that Rooney is not a part of.

For now Rooney is a United player and according to his boss Alex Ferguson, has a very important role to play ahead of the FA Cup Quarter Final against Chelsea.

But come end of August, will he still be a part of Ferguson's team?
