Jan Vertonghen scored a brace in Tottenham's defeat at the hands of Liverpool at Anfield to improve his standing in football fantasy.
Only six matches were played over the Premier League's 29th weekend but it was not short of excitement for fans and football fantasy managers.

There were only two teams who did not score of the 12 that were in action and they played each other in a goalless draw. Norwich and Southampton fans could have expected a lot of goals in their match-up but Artur Boruc stopped a Grant Holt penalty to prevent any chances of that happening. Boruc was the goal-keeper of the week although Swansea's Michel Vorm also stopped a penalty in their game against West Brom.

Unfortunately for Vorm and his fantasy backers, he conceded two goals to go with that stop and leaked a few negatives.

Swansea took the lead in that game through Luke Moore but conceded a goal to Romelu Lukaku before Jonathon de Guzman owners would see his assist negated by a 61st minute own goal. Lukaku had a chance to make it two goals in the game but had a rather lame shot at the goal parried away by Vorm. Michu failed to get himself on the goal-sheets once more as the toil of a rather long season takes toll on the Spanish player.

Steven Fletcher's goal was one of my predictions that did come right. Unfortunately for Sunderland his was the only goal they scored apart from conceding three to the bottom-placed QPR. There was one for Loic Remy - who now has scored twice in successive matches - and another for Andros Townsend and Jermaine Jenas that took the game away from Sunderland. Townsend also got an assist for himself.

Aston Villa defeated Reading 2-1 in their relegation scrap, helped by Christian Benteke and Gabriel Agbonlahor goals after having conceded an early own goal through Nathan Baker.

Newcastle United were an early goal down too in their clash against Stoke with Jonathon Walters finally converting a penalty. But Yohan Cabaye levelled the score for Newcastle and Papiss Cisse scored an injury time goal to win the game for the Toons. The absence of Robert Huth would obviously be hurting the Potters but their shambolic defence makes me wonder whether getting any defender from their side will be a good idea in the near future.

And speaking of defence, the one player that could have been brought into football fantasy sides in the hindsight is Jan Vertonghen of the Tottenham Hotspurs. That Spurs lost was a blow to their chances of finishing at number three but the centre-back slammed in a couple of goals to bag a whole lot of points. Of course Luis Suarez had his mandatory goal and later added an assist when he was felled in the penalty area for Steven Gerrard to convert the ensuing penalty.

But as far as the fantasy owners are concerned the week truly belonged to Vertonghen given the low percentage of fantasy owners that had him in their teams.
