Pep hits back at Evra over recent City criticism

Guardiola hits back at Evra after Man Utd icon claimed Pep doesn't want leaders at Man City

The Frenchman, who is now a pundit, claimed that the Spanish tactician does not like nor can he manage personalities in the dressing room.

Pep Guardiola has hit back at former Manchester United player Patrice Evra after the ex-defender turned pundit claimed that the Manchester City boss does not want – nor can he handle – leaders at the Etihad Stadium.

The Frenchman made this statement in the aftermath of the Cityzens' embarrassing UEFA Champions League semifinal exit at the hands of Real Madrid, a result which rehashed the scrutiny on Pep and his distaste for certain dressing-room personalities.

According to Evra, Manchester City needed leaders and personality on the pitch in the showdown with Los Blancos. The Spanish giants, who needed two goals just to tie the game in the final minutes of the second leg, relied on exactly that as Ancelotti's men turned things around to win 3-1.

Patrice accused Pep of lacking the ability to manage players with personalities, which is a sentiment tons of football fans hold after the Spaniard's public falling out with the likes of Samuel Eto'o, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Yaya Toure.

"Manchester City need leaders, but Guardiola doesn't want leaders. He doesn't want personality," Evra said, as per Marca.

"He is the leader. They don't have anyone on the pitch to help them."

"He chooses his teams like that, he can't coach people with personality," Patrice went on to add.

"He did it at Barcelona, but he builds his team to control everyone. When things go wrong, he always decides."

The Old Trafford icon did not stop there as he later took aim at the club, claiming that Manchester City are simply based on money, arguing that players agree to move to the Etihad Stadium mainly due to financial reasons.

Pep, speaking ahead of Wednesday's clash with Wolves, took the time to respond to the former Manchester United player. The former Barcelona boss joked that the Frenchman could be posturing himself for a Manchester United job with this dig before inviting Patrice to his dressing room to discover the truth about his current players.

"Maybe [Patrice] Evra is right or maybe he's doing a good quote to come back to Manchester United to work there," Pep said, as per the Daily Mail.

"I've had nice, incredible players in my past at Barcelona, Bayern, Man City. I could give a good list in terms of personality and character. Most of them have won World Cups, European, UCL's and leagues."

"Patrice - if we were together, I would show you the personality and character of my players right now that we have, absolutely," Guardiola later added.

As mentioned earlier, De Bruyne and Co. are gearing up for a trip to Wolves on Wednesday. The 5-0 victory over Newcastle during the weekend means City can go three points clear of second-placed Liverpool if they beat their Midlands opponent. However, Bruno Lage's side have proven to be a difficult team to break down this season.
