The Frenchman will remain at the Camp Nou until 2024, but the Blaugrana's announcement video opened them up to ridicule!

Thursday morning saw Barcelona confirm what many knew to be inevitable: Ousmane Dembele will be staying at the Camp Nou for an additional two more years after initially running down his contract.

The Frenchman's old deal ran out this summer, meaning the former Dortmund attacker was a free agent and could have joined one of the Blaugrana's many European rivals. There was allegedly interest from the Premier League, namely Chelsea, who are keen on a right-sided winger, but this did not come to fruition.

One thing that was clear throughout this whole saga was Xavi's desire to keep the 25-year-old. The Spanish head coach is a huge admirer of Dembele and was pushing for the club to keep him in Catalonia at all cost.

And the iconic midfielder got his wish! As confirmed by Barcelona's social media account, Dembele has signed a new deal that will extend his stay at the club until 2024. Not only that, but the attacker has also allegedly accepted a 40 percent wage cut, which is a huge boost for the Spanish giants given their financial crisis.

However, while this news was a huge boost for Xavi's side, Barcelona were still ridiculed on social media after announcing Ousmane's extension. And interestingly, it has nothing to do with footballing reasons.

Several football fans trolled the Spanish giants on Twitter over what they deemed a low-quality announcement video. In the clip, the Frenchman can be seen walking up to a whiteboard with "Dembele 2022" written on it before grabbing a piece of tissue, whipping off the last number, and changing the 2022 to 2024.

What many Twitter users found hilarious was the low-budget video, with some joking that the Spanish giants' financial mess is so drastic that the club could not even afford a whiteboard duster, hence the use of a tissue. Check out the best tweets below.
