The Portuguese ace has not joined the club's preseason for 'family reasons', but one of the team's greatest insists that letting him go would be the right thing to do.

While fans and most experts believe that Cristiano Ronaldo's time at Manchester United should keep going, there are others who believe that the Portuguese ace should part ways with the Red Devils as soon as possible, all of this for the team's benefit on the long run.

Speaking with the Daily Mail, UEFA Champions League winner with the club Teddy Sheringham did not hold back when discussing CR7's future, hinting that if it were up to him, he would have already sent the Portuguese player packing.

"You could get in two or three players on that sort of wage and that is a lot of money they could spend each month. Life goes on, he wants to go and play somewhere else so get players in that you know who are going to be strong and stable throughout the season," Sheringham stated.

The former England international, who believes CR7 has "two years max" at the top of his game, went on to admit the player deserves to enjoy his final years as a household name with a club that can guarantee him the success he is used to.

"Ronaldo will have been watching what has been going on, he will feel the vibes from how it was in Fergie's time and how the club is being run now and he'll get the vibes that he does not like what he is seeing going on. Ronaldo has got maybe another year or two years max at the top level and he deserves to enjoy his football at the top of his game,"Sheringham added.

With that in mind, Sheringham admitted that letting the player leave would not be as devastating for the Red Devils if they can find a way to make a proper investment out of his departure.

"People are saying shall Ten Hag build his team around Ronaldo, but if he wants to go he goes. That opens up a whole new corridor for United. You could get in two or three players on that sort of wage and that is a lot of money they could spend each month," Sheringham stated.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked to teams such as Chelsea, PSG, Bayern München, and even Roma. Nevertheless, different reasons have seen his list of suitors narrowing down. It will be interesting to see where he can continue playing, although he might be forced to see the end of his deal with the Red Devils due to lack of options to continue his playing career.
