Klopp offer team news after Nunez's suspension

Liverpool boss Klopp offers team news for Man Utd clash after Darwin Nunez's suspension

August 16, 2022 By Ali M.
The Uruguayan was sent off in the 1-1 draw with Palace, meaning he will miss the trip to Old Trafford, as well as the games against Bournemouth and Newcastle.

Not only did Monday see Liverpool drop further points early on in the season, but the Premier League giants suffered another blow to their squad as one key player is now facing a three-game suspension. That player is none other than Darwin Nunez.

The marquee summer signing started his first top-flight for his new employers in his Anfield debut, making this a special occasion for the Uruguayan. Unfortunately, it ended horribly for the former Benfica striker.

The South American sensation clashed with Crystal Palace center-back Joachim Andersen throughout Monday's showdown with the Eagles. Nunez disappointingly let his emotions get the better of him and head-butted the Danish defender, earning him a straight red card from the referee.

This means Darwin will serve a three-game ban at the very least and will play no part in next week's trip to bitter rivals Manchester United. Liverpool went on to draw their clash with Vieira's side, playing out a 1-1 stalemate after their 2-2 result away to Fulham in the opening weekend, leaving Klopp's men with only two points out of a possible six.

As a result, a win at Old Trafford is a must and the presence of their new no.9 would have been a huge boost. Fortunately, Jurgen offered a positive update on the striker department, hinting that Roberto Firmino could return in time for Matchweek 3, as per Anfield Watch.

Additionally, the German added that Jordan Henderson and Joe Gomez were unable to start on Monday, but with both coming off the bench in the second half, the English duo might be in line to start at the Theatre of Dreams.

Sadly, it isn't all great news as Joel Matip will be out for the next two weeks. Meanwhile, Thiago, Ibrahima Konate, Jota, Curtis Jones, Caoimhin Kelleher, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Calvin Ramsay all remain on the sidelines. Given that Man City have moved four points clear of Liverpool, this was not the ideal start to the campaign for the Reds.
