The 32 teams will be split into four pots. This means that each pot will consist of eight teams. Pot 1 consists of the UEFA Champions League holders, which is Real Madrid, the UEFA Europa League winners, which is Eintracht Frankfurt, and the champions of Europe's top six leagues. However, since Los Blancos also hold the Spanish top-flight crown, Eredivisie champions Ajax were included as an extra slot was available.

Pots 2 to 4 are decided based on UEFA coefficient. Each group will consist of no more than one team from each pot. Additionally, teams from the same league cannot be grouped together at this stage of the competition.

The latest season of everyone's favorite European club competition commences on September 6. This date was brought forward due to the upcoming FIFA World Cup, which will – for the first time – be staged in winter (November 20-December 18).
