The Blues are in discussions with RB Leipzig to secure the service of their highly-rated center-back Joško Gvardiol.

Chelsea have made a stunning £77 million offer for RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol, according to reports. With less than two days left for the transfer window to shut close, the Blues are aiming to finalise a deal for one of Europe's hottest prospects but would only have the player at their disposal next season, as per the terms of the negotiations.

Having already recruited Wesley Fofana for a whooping $87M earlier this week, Chelsea are still working to bolster their backline for the foreseeable future. Both Kalidou Koulibaly and Thiago Silva are past the peak of their powers and will need replacing in a season or two, hence the club's decision to move in and secure the service of another top center-back choice. Earlier this summer, the London club was linked with a move for Gvardiol but were deterred from pursuing the signing of the RB Leipzig man owning to the massive price tag placed on him.

On Tuesday, Italian journalist and transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reported that Chelsea have offered £77M ($90M) for the Croatian international. The bid is now said to be under consideration by RB Leipzig and there is optimism that a deal could be done before the transfer window closes with talks progressing in the right direction. Despite the hefty fee being discussed, the player is not expected to move to the Premier League this summer as his current club do not see themselves being able to bring in an adequate replacement before the transfer window closes in a little over 24 hours.

The purported arrival of Josko Gvardiol at Chelsea will make him the third-most expensive transfer in the club's history.
